GST Updates 2026 – New Rules Every Business in Nagpur Must Know

Major GST changes are in effect in 2026 – from the new Invoice Management System (IMS) to stricter ITC matching rules. Here is what every Nagpur business must know to stay compliant.

GST in 2026 – What Has Changed?

The GST landscape has undergone significant changes in 2026. From the mandatory Invoice Management System (IMS) to revised return filing workflows, businesses in Nagpur and across India must update their compliance processes immediately.

1. Invoice Management System (IMS) – Now Mandatory

The GSTN has made the Invoice Management System (IMS) mandatory for all businesses. Under IMS:

  • Suppliers' invoices are pushed directly to the buyer's GSTR-2B
  • Buyers must Accept, Reject, or Keep Pending each invoice in the IMS dashboard
  • Only accepted invoices qualify for Input Tax Credit (ITC)
  • Rejected or pending invoices are reversed automatically in GSTR-3B

Action Required: Log in to gst.gov.in → IMS Dashboard → Review all pending invoices before the 14th of each month.

2. New ITC Reversal Rules (Rule 86B Tightened)

Rule 86B now restricts ITC usage to 99% of the output tax liability for businesses with turnover above ₹50 lakhs in a month if: - Supplier has not filed GSTR-1 - Invoice is unmatched in GSTR-2B

3. E-Invoicing Threshold Reduced to ₹5 Crore

As of April 2026, e-invoicing is mandatory for all businesses with annual turnover above ₹5 crore. Previously this was ₹10 crore. If you haven't set up your IRN (Invoice Reference Number) system, do it immediately.

4. GST Rate Changes – Key Updates

· Item/Category · Old Rate · New Rate (2026) · · --- · --- · --- · · Insurance Premiums (term plans) · 18% · 12% · · Online Gaming Platforms · 28% · 28% (confirmed) · · EV Spare Parts · 18% · 12% · · Packaged Drinking Water (>20L) · 12% · 5% ·

5. GSTR-1A – New Amendment Return

A new return GSTR-1A has been introduced to allow suppliers to amend invoices reported in GSTR-1 before GSTR-3B is filed. This provides a correction window and helps avoid mismatches.
